In November 2011, the EUMD was demonstrated in Detroit in front of the heads of some utility companies interested in implementing smart grids. We were responsible for manufacturing the demonstration panel, designing the interactive elements of the demonstration, and designing the software and hardware elements of the EUMDs.
The Bright Green display, on the left-hand side of the table, demonstrates the dynamics of a smart grid. On the right, we manufactured a mock-up smart energy home area network (HAN). 4 of our smart energy metering devices were used to measure actual power in real-time using Zigbee wireless communications. The transformer up to the top-right actually supplies power to the electrical components down line. The EUMDS are implemented in level 1 and level 2 EVSEs on the display. For practical reasons, power loads for electric vehicles were replaced by an electric heater. The monitor atop the panel shows actual measurements in real-time.
