Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of senior staff:

  • Perform engineering work in the field of circuit design and analysis, and firmware development
  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  • Confer with engineers, customers, and other team members to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products
  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical experimental instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems to be used for commercial, industrial, and in a laboratory setting
  • Work on engineering designs, preparing reports, specifications, calculations, equipment selection, and cost estimates for various projects
  • Assist with developing of budgets, estimating labor time, material, and construction costs
  • Assist with the preparation of technical memoranda, reports, and electronic deliverables
  • Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation
  • Prepare specifications for the purchase of materials and equipment

Education Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • At least 2 years experience and/or coursework in C programming, microprocessors, and circuit design

Experience Requirements

  • Experience using with LabView, Python, and (U)nix systems
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Computers and Electronics – working knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Technology Design – generating or adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs
  • Installation – installing equipment, machines, wiring or programs to meet expectations
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Previous related work experience preferred, either in an internship or a full time position

Essential Skills

  • Mathematics – knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Demonstrate ability to plan and schedule work activities effectively
  • Troubleshooting – determine the causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it
  • Complex Problem Solving – identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Systems Analysis – determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes
  • Make suggestions and demonstrate initiative in executing directed tasks
  • Display professionalism and attention to detail
  • Work in a small, but fast-paced work environment
  • Quickly move from one task to another, wear and change "hats" as requested
  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential
  • Ability to work independently with little direction and ability to manage one's own time
