February 14, 20252G Engineering Introduces Intelligent Solid-State Relay for Subsea and High-Power DC Applications
Sun Prairie, WI, February 13, 2026 — 2G Engineering announces the release of its Intelligent Solid-State Relay (iSSR), a next-generation power switching solution designed for high-voltage, high-current DC loads in extreme environments. The iSSR is pressure-balanced oil-filled (PBOF) and rated to at least 6,000 meters depth, making it suitable for the most demanding subsea installations as well as topside industrial applications.
The iSSR combines 60A/800V switching capability with integrated monitoring, protection, and communications in a compact 2.25″ × 1.75″ × 1.03″ puck form factor — small enough to fit in a standard subsea pressure housing alongside other electronics. Two variants are available: the G006045 for bidirectional AC/DC blocking with configurable current direction, and the G006063 optimized for DC blocking applications.
“The iSSR represents a major step forward in intelligent power switching,” said Hal Glenn at 2G Engineering. “By integrating protection, diagnostics, and high-speed data capture directly into the relay, we’re giving system designers tools to improve reliability and maintainability in environments where you can’t easily pull hardware for troubleshooting.”
Integrated Protection and Soft Start
Unlike conventional solid-state relays, the iSSR includes a switchable 50mA constant-current bypass circuit that safely pre-charges capacitive loads before full power is applied, preventing damaging inrush currents. A configurable electronic fuse provides trip times as fast as 1 microsecond, with bidirectional current monitoring reporting instantaneous and peak measurements in real time. Internal temperature monitoring triggers automatic shutdown if thermal limits are exceeded. Input-to-output galvanic isolation is rated at 1,000V minimum.
Communications and Diagnostics
The iSSR supports Ethernet (10/100 Mbps with DHCP or static IP), RS-232, RS-485, CAN bus, and USB-C, all accessible through a single 6-pin connector for power and control plus a standard Ethernet jack. Multiple units can be daisy-chained from a single power and control bus, with each unit individually addressable via Modbus. An embedded oscilloscope mode captures at least one second of current waveform data at 100 kHz, enabling engineers to analyze startup transients, fault events, and load behavior without external instrumentation.
Four status LEDs are visible through the oil-filled housing, providing at-a-glance confirmation of relay state, pre-charge activity, and communication status. Firmware is field-upgradeable via USB-C.
Expanding Subsea Power Systems Portfolio
The iSSR joins 2G Engineering’s growing line of subsea power electronics, all designed and manufactured in-house at the company’s AS9100-certified facility. The portfolio includes custom motor drives from 100W compact servo controllers to 73kW high-power units featuring SiC MOSFET power stages and field-oriented control; AC-DC and bidirectional DC-DC power supplies with outputs up to 1,000V; and lithium-ion battery management systems supporting 2 to over 100 series cells with active balancing, solid-state protection, and web-based monitoring. All products are PBOF, rated for full ocean depth, and share a common Modbus communications architecture for streamlined system integration.
Availability
The G006045 and G006063 Intelligent Solid-State Relays are available now in preliminary release. Datasheets, solid models, and mechanical drawings are available on the 2G Engineering website. Customization options are available upon request.
